Welcome and Keynote Address
9:00 AM - 9:45 AM
Introduction to SPPC2021 and Keynote address by Muireann Irish (30 Minutes talk + 10 minutes questions)
Muireann Irish is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the Brain and Mind Centre, University of Sydney where she leads the Memory and Imagination in Neurological Disorders group (MIND). Muireann’s research focuses on the brain mechanisms of cognitive dysfunction in younger-onset dementia. Using experimental tasks and multimodal neuroimaging, she seeks to clarify how large-scale brain network dysfunction leads to cognitive and behavioural changes in dementia. She hopes to use these insights to improve our capacity to diagnose and intervene effectively to improve quality of life for those affected. Muireann has published >130 papers on topics including memory, imagination, social cognition, and dementia. The calibre of Muireann’s work is reflected in prestigious awards from almost every major society in the field. Recent highlights include the 2019 Elizabeth Warrington Prize from the British Neuropsychological Society, the 2020 Gottschalk Medal from the Australian Academy of Science, and the 2021 International Science Council Early Career Award for the Australia-Oceania region.
